Buddy Holly and Friends: Not Fade Away
60th Anniversary Show
February 3rd, 2019 marked the 61st anniversary of the plane crash that took the lives of some of America’s most iconic musicians: J.P. ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly.
Gary Rue (Gene Pitney, FAB 6, The Sensational Sleepers) is proud to present some of the original cast members from History Theatre’s IVEY-Award-winning production of “Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story”, with Nicholas Freeman reprising his role as crooner-in-chief of Buddy's hits.
Rue’s solo first set features memorable melodies from three artists who were among the chief beneficiaries of Buddy Holly’s genius: Gene Pitney (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Only Love Can Break a Heart), Bobby Vee (More Than I Can Say, Take Good Care of My Baby) and Crickets’ guitarist Sonny Curtis (Walk Right Back, I Fought the Law, Love Is All Around from the Mary Tyler Moore show).
The second set features a red-hot Nicholas Freeman-led quartet serving up all the Holly hits: That’ll Be the Day, Peggy Sue, Rave On, Maybe Baby, Not Fade Away, Heartbeat, Everyday, Words of Love and Oh Boy.
IVEY-Award winning music and musicians (from History Theatre's productions of "Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story") and endorsed by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison of the Crickets!
Gary Rue tells a bit of rock and roll history in reverse, from Gene Pitney (who wrote “Rubber Ball” for Bobby Vee) and Sonny Curtis (Crickets' guitarist and a great tunesmith in his own rite), to Bobby Vee (Bobby took Holly’s place at the Moorhead, MN concert after Buddy’s fatal plane crash on February 3rd, 1959).
