Starring Nicholas Freeman

"Buddy Holly: OH BOY!" is a 're-staging' of Buddy Holly's 1959 WINTER DANCE PARTY, featuring music of Buddy's co-stars, Ritchie Valens ("La Bamba", performed by Allen Malicsi); Dion & the Belmonts (with Brian Pierce singing "Teenager in Love"), The Big Bopper ("Chantilly Lace", featuring Zach Spicer) and Frankie Sardo ("Fake Out", performed by Gary Rue)

A STELLAR TRIBUTE to the music of American rock and roll icon Buddy Holly , featuring original cast members (Nicholas
Freeman, Blake Foster and Zach Spicer) from History Theatre’s IVEY-award-winning production of Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story. Endorsed by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison of The Crickets! Music direction by Gary Rue, produced by *Gary Rue.

*Music Director, arranger and duet partner with Gene Pitney, 1986 until Mr. Pitney’s death in 2006. Also played “a little piano” for Bobby Vee in the mid-eighties. Mr. Rue developed a ‘passing acquaintance-relationship’ with The Crickets who were touring simultaneously with Gene Pitney. As music director History Theatre's five SRO productions and with the help of Gene Pitney's erstwhile manager, Jack Thibault, Gary was able to arrange the Crickets’ attendance on opening night and their subsequent enthusiastic endorsement of the production and the musical delivery.

Gary Rue (Music Director for Gene ("Town Without Pity") Pitney 1986-2006, is proud to present some of the original cast members from History Theatre’s IVEY-Award-winning production of “Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story”, with Nicholas Freeman reprising his role as crooner-in-chief of Buddy's hits.

The music begins with Gary Rue singing “Fake Out” by then (and now) unknown recording artist Frankie Sardo, followed by Brian Pierce delivering swooning performances of Dion and the Belmonts hits. Next up is Zach Spicer giving his all as the Big Bopper, with “Chantilly Lace” and Allen Malicsi closing the first set with Ritchie Valens' “La Bamba”.

The 2nd set heralds the main attraction:  a red-hot Nicholas Freeman-led quartet serving up all the Holly hits: That’ll Be the Day, Peggy Sue, Rave On, Maybe Baby, Not Fade Away, Heartbeat, Everyday, Words of Love and of course, OH BOY!.

Cricket approved!
